Half of Glastonbury 2009 Tickets sold in 24 Hours

Starting yesterday, thousands of fans jumped at the chance to buy tickets for next year’s Glastonbury festival, resulting in around half of the tickets being sold in 24 hours. This year is also the earliest the tickets have ever gone up on sale.
Organisers hope that by giving festival-goers an early start more people will grab the opportunity to buy a ticket for the weekend festival in June (26th-28th).
A ticketing system now in place also allows registered members to reserve tickets for £50, as well as buy as many tickets as they wish (provided they matched to registration numbers). The full weekend ticket is priced at £175.
A spokesperson stressed to the BBC that they hadn’t expected the event to sell out straight away, though are pleased with the results.”That would have been extraordinary, without a line-up and eight months before the event”.
The headliners at next year’s event are expected to be confirmed steadily over the months before the event, but organisers have already said that “it’s not Coldplay, it’s not U2 and it’s not the Rolling Stones”

Clearly an attempt to shift them, what with last year’s tickets not selling out instantly as per usual.
