The All New Adventures of Us

Artist: The All New Adventures of Us
Venue: Bodega (the Social Club), Nottingham
Date: 09.10.08

It’s to a small, relatively quiet audience the Northampton 7-piece take the stage at Bodega. For just over half an hour, the All New Adventures of Us try to win over the crowd with their careful compiled music, and by the end, their audience are far from silent.

The band originated seven years ago from (as they put it on Myspace) the shoe-making town of Britain. It becomes clear that music is not the only thing they try their hand at- illustration and writing are under the belt. As well as performing the music they write, the All New Adventures of Us also manage it under their own record label- Good Guys Wear Black B.R (Bedroom Recordings).

The first thing you notice about this band, despite the fact they were pretty cramped for space what with the number of instruments taking up the little stage, is their enthusiasm to be there. The music, the banter with the crowd, all of it makes the listener believe that they genuinely want to be there and are enjoying every moment of it too. Booing and bottling probably couldn’t have wiped the smiles off this infectious indie-pop band’s faces.

A lot of effort has gone into their sound, and the All New Adventures of Us live perform it to perfection. Not a key out or an instrument wrong, it’s even hard to tell the live from the recorded. The band’s well developed lyrics and advanced instrumental fit together nicely, although admittably the vocals could do with just a little more pratice, in order for them to flow alongside the various instruments better.

The only downside to the All New Adventures of Us is some of the songs sound a little similar to one another, but then they’re going with a great sound that isn’t really matched to any other band in their genre, so why not run with it?

Overall, the All New Adventures of Us are a fun band that will get you dancing with their upbeat, pleseant musicĀ  and fans of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly to Lightspeed Champion will most definitely enjoy them. They’ve managed seven years so far, so hopefully another seven years will come for such a lovely, promising band. A definite one to watch over the coming year.
